INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1: Instructable Infographic Poster (20%)

Chosen Recipe - "How to Make Pina's Spaghetti alla Carbonara | Pasta Grannies"
Requirements:
Size resolution: 1240 by 1750 pixels / 2048 by 2048 pixels

We are to study one video recipe from Pasta Grannies, break it down, chunk the preparation and cooking process into an instructable infographic poster. We are to capture Grandma’s personality and unique dish identity in the poster as part of the narrative structure.

Figure 1. Video analysis - door design in Pasta Grannies video, Week 4 (26/1/2022)

It was hard capturing the personality of the granny in such a short video, so I looked at the different visuals
being put into the video, and I found one element that I could incorporate into my infographic.

Da Danilo is a family run traditional trattoria in Central, Rome. I could imitate the door design and
make it the title design of the infographic.

Figure 2. Inspirations, Week 4 (26/1/2022)

These food infographics that I found on Behance are designed by Sung Hwan Jang from Seoul, Korea. I love the
minimal look of the graphics and also how the information is placed - clear and precise.

Figure 3. Art style and color palette, Week 4 (26/1/2022)

The art style for the illustrations I'm going for is sketchy and minimal like the above reference, while the color palette
is inspired by the door design from the video analysis using the same color but in different tones.

Figure 4. Recipe breakdown, Week 4 (26/1/2022)

I wrote down the recipe in Google Docs to visualize the steps in my head before constructing the infographic.

Figure 5. Sketches, Week 4 (27/1/2022)

Figure 6. Poster background, Week 5 (3/2/2022)

Since it is a traditional recipe, I wanted to create a coffee stained texture piece of paper
for the infographic so the viewers can tell that it is definitely rich in history.

Figure 7. Poster Title Design, Week 5 (3/2/2022)

I imitated the door design and made it the title design of the infographic.
Font used: Parlour Sans Regular.

Figure 8. Coloring progress, Week 8 (23/2/2022)

Figure 8. Noodle illustration attempts, Week 8 (23/2/2022)

1st: Actually my final attempt in the beginning but Ms Anis have requested me to color it, so I did.

3rd: Even though the plate in the video is white, it looked a bit plain, so adding a pop of color/pattern was better.

4th: Final attempt for the noodle illustration, changed the shape of the noodle to a more fuller looking  spaghetti instead of a flat and mushy looking spaghetti so it looked more appetizing (but then again, I'm trying to improve my food illustrating skills).

Figure 9. Noodle illustration outcome, Week 8 (23/2/2022)
// Please say it looks appetizing ☺

FEEDBACK

Week 8: The last served dish should be colored.

REFLECTION

This project have allowed me to think about Miller's Law Chunking by breaking down the recipe into sections and arrange the poster with readable and clear information. I've learnt to produce more sketches so there are various options I could choose from. I observed that sometimes I don't follow my sketches and kind of changing it last minute. I'm actually not really satisfied with the end result but I will do better in the future.
